Governor Abbott laid out Texas’ phase one plan to re-open businesses and get Texans back to work on Monday. I joined him at the press conference in Austin and talked about how Texans must continue working as a team to fight the coronavirus, as well as getting our economy back on track. Here’s a short video from Monday’s press conference with my message to the people of Texas.
I also established several Senate working groups this week to discuss challenges the state will face in the next legislative session as a result of the pandemic. Here’s my official statement on that.

Jan and I were deeply saddened to learn that Houston Police Officer Jason Knox was tragically killed in a helicopter crash Saturday morning. I know Jason’s father, Mike, very well. Mike also served in the HPD and is now a Houston City Councilman. Please continue to keep Officer Chase Cormier, who was seriously injured in the crash, as well as the entire Houston Police Department, and the families of those affected in your thoughts and prayers.
Please also keep those who are serving on the frontlines during this pandemic – our medical professionals, first responders, grocery workers and so many others – in your prayers.
