Voter Security is not Voter Suppression

On Monday, American Airlines put out a statement saying they were “strongly opposed” to Senate Bill 7, our Election Security bill that is one of my top priorities this session.  The government relations representative who called my office admitted that neither he nor the CEO of American Airlines had actually read the bill.

Today I held a press conference to respond to American Airlines and other corporations that are accusing me and the Texas Senate of “voter suppression.”  My first message to them was simple – read the bill.

Instead, just like they always do, they say we are restricting access to the polls and making it more difficult for people of color to vote.  They said the same thing after we passed photo voter ID in 2011 and again in 2017 when we ended straight ticket voting. Nothing could be further from the truth.

I hope you will watch my press conference where I lay out the facts about what Senate Bill 7 actually does – and what it doesn’t do.  We simply cannot let the Democrats, the left and the media continue to divide us by charging that everything we do is racist.

Please continue to keep our state and our nation in your prayers. Pray for the families who have lost loved ones to coronavirus and for our heroic health care workers. And, as always, keep our brave law enforcement officers in your prayers. May God bless you and your family, and may He continue to bless the greatest state of all—Texas.

Sincerely,

Dan Patrick
