51 Years Later, Still Hot Dogs and Hawaiian Punch
Last Sunday, Jan and I celebrated our 51st wedding anniversary. We decided to celebrate by recreating the very first meal she made for me when we had our first dinner at home.
In the summer of 1975, she made hot dogs, beans, and served Hawaiian Punch. I haven’t had Hawaiian Punch in 20-plus years, wasn’t bad, and only 20 calories! That was our anniversary dinner on Sunday.
The last half century has gone by in the wink of an eye. We have been blessed with two wonderful children and eight amazing grandchildren. One of the best decisions we ever made was moving to Texas in 1979, when I came here to be a TV sports anchor. We knew almost immediately that Texas would always be our home and where we wanted to raise our family.

Saluting Texas Sheriffs
On Tuesday, I had the privilege of delivering the keynote address in Fort Worth at the Sheriffs’ Association of Texas annual conference. The Sheriffs’ Association equips and advocates for sheriffs across all 254 counties, strengthening public safety in every community.
I thanked them for their service and reaffirmed my commitment to ensuring they have the support and resources they need to protect Texans in every corner of our great state.
Texas is blessed with some of the finest sheriffs and law enforcement officers in the nation. We are grateful for their work.
Thank you for all your support over the years and for everything you do to keep Texas red. May God bless you and your family, and may He continue to bless the greatest state of all—Texas.
